The Cut Of The Suit: Notice Details Before You Buy

Not all women’s business suits are made the same. They have different cuts and design details, that are worth paying attention to when you shop. I recommend having some suits that are traditional cuts (one might say standard or basic). One benefit of that is that they stay in style longer, and you can keep them for many, many years if you take care of them properly.

But if you want your work outfit to stand out in the crowd a bit, you should also get some suits that have cuts that are a little more interesting. There are pant suits and skirt suits that have design details in the pocket, cuff or neckline, for example, that gives it a little bit of an edge. Look around when you shop, to find a business suit that has something a little extra that gives it some pizzazz. When everyone follows traditional corporate dress code it can occasionally look like everyone is wearing the same thing. We need to break away a little, and individualize our style and fashion expression, while still maintaining a professional image.

Notice design details that are not the traditional style. Some of the business suits in your professional wardrobe should be traditional and basic, but some should have different cuts and designer details for variety.
